Demand Safety at Gonzaga University!

An anonymous USAS whistleblower has been made aware of multiple COVID-19 outbreaks on campus, but this information has not been communicated to students! Students have not even been informed of confirmed cases in their own dorm buildings! Students and workers need to know the truth about how many COVID-19 cases there are on their campus and if they’ve been exposed. Gonzaga isn’t even requiring COVID-19 testing for students and workers on campus, so we have no idea how bad the situation actually is! All members of the Gonzaga community should be required to get tested on a regular basis, and Gonzaga needs to publicly report on the testing statistics.

Amidst the outbreaks on campus, and in spite of CDC recommendations to limit indoor dining, Gonzaga has left the indoor seating at the COG dining facility open. Students continue to eat inside in close proximity to one another without masks on. Additionally, workers – including student workers – should not have to worry about losing their jobs during the pandemic when the campus is inevitably forced to shut down again as the virus spreads. Gonzaga needs to guarantee that all workers will be paid until the end of the semester in the event of another campus closure.

USAS demands that Gonzaga University:

1. Inform all students and workers of the numbers and locations of all COVID-19 cases on campus.
2. Require all students and workers on campus to be regularly tested for COVID-19, and publicly report on the testing statistics.
3. Close the indoor seating at the COG and any other campus dining locations.
4. Guarantee that all campus workers will be paid until the end of the semester in the event of a full or partial campus closure.
