The United Student Labor Action Coalition (USLAC) USAS Local 805 is proud to announce that we will be hosting the United Students Against Sweatshops 2020 Winter Conference, February 21st-22nd at the University of California Santa Barbara! Join us for a weekend of empowering workshops, community building, and student-worker power! Registration is now closed. Email staff@usas.org with any questions.

USLAC was founded in 2018 after AFSCME 3299’s first 3-day strike of a statewide campaign. We are dedicated to fostering community between workers and students in an effort to highlight our common struggles against an ever-growing privatized institution. AFSCME Local 3299 represents 27,000 workers throughout the entire UC system, including service workers and patient care workers in ten campuses and five medical centers. So far, it is estimated that 10,000 union jobs have been outsourced. Despite the fact that the UC system’s day to day operations depend on these workers, the university continues to deny them the livable wages and job security they deserve. It has almost been 3 years of neglect and lack of accountability; workers and students are saying enough is enough! Join us at the University of California Santa Barbara to show your solidarity with our campus worker justice campaign.

At the 2020 Winter Conference we will arm ourselves with the tools we need to fight alongside workers on our college campuses and garment workers around the world. The struggle for job security and empowerment in the workplace is a common struggle, from the International Solidarity campaign to the South is Not For Sale campaign. This conference will be a space where you can participate in organizing trainings, learn about collective liberation, and meet other student organizers! Building student-worker power is crucial for fighting against the greed within the University of California and all exploitative universities, who act more like corporations than the public institutions of education that they claim to be.

Registration is now closed. Email staff@usas.org with any questions.
