Update: UW arrested 15 students. More details to come.
We are thrilled to let you know we have just occupied the University of Washington’s admissions office together with
members of the Black Student Union, MEChA de UW, First Nations and the entire UW Kick Out Sodexo Coalition to tell the administration louder than ever why students are outraged at their lack of concern for human rights and the demands of students.

We campaigned since October, urging President Wise to stand up to corporate greed and human rights abuse. Instead of stepping up to the plate and having serious dialogue with us, she has already ordered 40 arrests of students. This is our third sit-in in the last month. It’s like the only way to get a meeting with administrators around here is to get handcuffed first! Today we hope our university will do the right thing rather than continue to arrest nonviolent student activists.
We’re demanding that the administration allow the campus community a meaningful role in university’s decision-making, especially in light of new control UW administrators just won in the legislature to raise tuition as much as they want, plus a new president will take over in just a month. Now is the time for students to show our power!

Last week Sodexo flew in their top executives to try to discredit our student movement, but instead we forced them to admit they are totally unwilling to take even the most basic steps to end labor violations. Still, President Wise has taken no meaningful action on this issue. It’s clear that the university prioritizes protecting their relationship with a human rights abuser over upholding the university’s mission and values.
Thank you for standing with us again!
