On April 5, student activists on more than 220 campuses hosted and participated in the National Teach-In on corporate greed with Cornel West, Frances Fox Piven, and USASer Beth Huang, to learn about the growing power of the financial institutions taking over our economy and how we’re already fighting back!

At the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the Student Labor Action Coalition (SLAC), the TAA, and the Sociology Department hosted the National Teach- In. At Rutgers University, hundreds of students on two campuses turned out to participate in the National Teach-in, with the local teach-in facilitated by AAUP and Rutgers USAS. Students called on teach-in participants to action and to join in on the walk-out against the removal of tuition caps and in support of campus workers’ rights the following week, which drew over 500 students. At Los Angeles Valley Community College, students packed the room to watch the National Teach-In, and discussion was facilitated by AFT Local 1521 and the Los Angeles USAS, calling students to join the campaign against the proposed $800 million in proposed cuts to California’s community colleges. At the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio State University USAS hosted a teach-in, drawing the connection between privatization and growing corporate greed with SB5 and the university’s contract with Sodexo, the billionaire food service corporation with a track record of human rights abuses around the world. They rallied students to demand that the university sever their contact with Sodexo until the company agrees to respect Ohio State workers’ rights to unionize and earn living wages, and to join with Ohio’s public workers in fighting SB5.
